October is halloween month

The special offer of the month proofs it.
Also eBONY feels great this month cause she looks a little bit like a pumpkin
but than walking on 4 legs.
Her well curved body also shows she likes good food that's why we love to give you this recipe:

Soft pumpkin pie (cake)
ingredients:
100 gr butter
150 gr sugar
4 eggs
150 gr self-raising flour
500 gr pumpkin
100 gr crunched walnuts
50 gr honey

Let's bake away:
Stir the butter softly through the sugar.
Add also the eggs and the sieved flour.
Skin and cut the pumpkin in large pieces.
Cook and mash to pulp.
Stir the pulp, the crushed walnuts and the honey through the blend.
Add the blend in a buttered cake tin.
Put it in a preheated oven and bake for 45 min on 180° C.
Enjoy!

A few birthdays

My father became 67 on August the 17th.
Also a real lion (horoscope) with maybe a little less hair.



Bruno's birthday was on the 21th. This nice, cool boy is already 8 years old. He has a new friend. Tina is her name and she is a spanish waterdog. She was the new model for © ebony cards.



and last but not least: Zoë turned 5.
Our groovy niece is a big girl already.

All good things come to an end

The vacation is already over for © ebony cards.
After the loss of Martha we have decided to go away for a few days. Setting or minds free. We've booked for 3 days in Honfleur. Honfleur, known for its old, beautiful picturesque port,
located in the Norman departement of France.
We've had a good stay in 'Hôtel des Loges'.
Ebony has been great. Our well shaped girl was calm and quiet in the hotel room, she was courageous along the long walks, loved to have a drink on the many terraces with us and snored loudly on the backseat of the car.
Meanwhile Youp stayed at Dog's Dream.
There he was spoiled again by Chretien and his wife.

Youp in the spotlight!

Youp is 9 years old today. (check out the special of the month)
From now on we can call him a real senior.
Sometimes he moans when he gets up, his afternoon nap takes a little longer , he's has a little belly and sometimes we have to call him twice.
But he is still active and very playful.
Happy birthday dear Youp!

Here you can find some information about the Hovawart:
The Hovawart is a large, robust, but not a heavy dog, looking somewhat like a Golden Retriever.
There is feathering on the chest, legs, undersides and tail. It comes in blonde, black or black and tan. The Hovawart is calm at home. He is determined, obedient and affectionate, especially towards it's master. Remaining playful and puppy-like in its old age. Very reserved with strangers.
Good natured, even-tempered and demanding of itself.
Brave, this dog is protective, alert and a good watchdog.
It will protect your property against intruders with great passion.
Intelligent and highly trainable. The best results are achieved with extremely consistent and loving.
Some strains are prone to fear-biting, others may be rather timid.
The Hovawart is a very healthy bread.
He is not recommended for apartment life. They love big gardens.
He prefers cool climates and can sleep outdoors.
It is an outstanding watchdog.
The Hovawart's coat is easy to groom.

Martha update

Martha's check up didn't turn out well.
The doctor was no longer able to safe the eye and it has been amputated last Wednesday.
Meanwhile her other eye has been contaminated.
The vet has no idea what causes it.
Now we are fighting to safe her eye with new antibiotics, eye ointment and eye-drops.
We have to follow a strict program. We have to treat her every half hour.
Martha has another 48 hours to keep her eye.
She is really brave and being strong and still wags her little tail when she hears or smells us.
We are so proud of you sweet girl!

Martha had medical surgery.

Martha had an accident about 2 months ago.
She had a hole in her eye.
(a branch? while she was playing? or maybe she scratched herself? We can’t say)
It never really healed and now she was having the one infection after the other.
She has been treated with antibiotics, eye ointment and eye-drops.
At the end the vet proposed medical surgery.
She would place Martha a screen (that means deliberately make a wound)
so the hole would heal faster.
We are not that keen on surgeries cause there is to many risk with the anaesthetic for bulldogs.
So we asked for a second opinion. We were referred to Dr Anne-Marie Verbruggen.
She is one of the best eye surgeons for pets in Belgium.
She told us that the hole was closed but that it would always be a weak point in the eye.
So she also proposed surgery but not by placing a screen because the hole was already closed but by strengthen the hole.
Last Monday, the 16^th of June, Martha had surgery.
The doctor cut a little piece of mucous membrane and saw this over the hole.
Everything went well but it is a tough healing process.
Despite her collar Martha is still able to bump her eye.
We really have to watch her all the time and be very carefully.
Because she is in a lot of pain she walks around in the house a lot
what makes it even a bigger risk.
We hope she’ll get better soon so she can cheerful frisk around again.
She has a check up next Monday, the 23th of June and, hopefully, within 3 weeks the doctor will remove the thread.
Fingers crossed!
